MOOR'S HEADS

Moor's Heads Italian Ceramic Pottery

CALTAGIRONE CERAMICS

The legend of the Moor’s Head is rooted deep in Italian history.  The story, passed down for generations, tells of a time about a thousand years ago when Sicily was under Arab rule.  During this regime a young Moor fell in love with a woman from Palermo.  It was love at first sight and he didn’t hesitate to tell her he was madly in love with her.

She happily returned his love and dreamed of him on her balcony where she loved to spend time caring for her plants.  She soon realized her mistake when he announced he would be returning to his wife and children in Arabia.  Blinded by jealousy and rage as reality sunk in, she killed her lover, cut off his head, filled it with basil and hung it from her balcony so they could be together forever.  She watered the basil with her tears.

While we don't recommend THAT, we DO recommend these incredible one-of-a-kind works of art.  Imported directly from Sicily.
